Character Name: Meowth
Series: Pokemon (anime)
Age: He's a Pokemon, so it's hard to say, but he's the mental equivalent of someone in their thirties.
From When?: Advanced Generation 145: Pasta La Vista
Inmate/Warden: Inmate; Despite his (and his entire team's) capacity for good, Meowth still actively chooses to do the wrong thing and can't seem to be deterred from this no matter how many times he's presented with alternate options.
Arrival: Snatched at the moment of his death, because look there's only so many times you can be sent blasting off again before it (A. Becomes fatal or (B. Someone steps in and gives you the big Come to Arceus.
Abilities/Powers:
Meowth has very little in terms of abilities for a Pokemon, having used up most of his "smarts" to learn how to walk on two legs and talk human- which are abilities in themselves. Most notably, he can bite and use his claws for attacks, and the major thing that differentiates his claw attacks from a normal cat's is that when he uses them, his claws extend outwards about two inches and glow. With his powers limited, however, his claw and bite attacks can only be as effective as a normal cat's.
He is extremely durable, though not immortal, capable of surviving long falls, electric attacks, fire, and various other things no normal animal would be able to survive, with no lasting damage... Except for the part where HE FINALLY ENDED UP DYING AND ENDED UP ON THE BARGE, so it's obviously not impossible to murder him or damage him to the point of needing intensive care, regardless of any power nerfs.
He can speak fluent Pokemon, as well as "human," however as there are no Pokemon, this ability isn't very useful. However, his knowledge of Pokemon-Speak would likely make it kind of easy to understand other animals (as many Pokemon actually communicate with grunts and growls like normal animals), but it's like knowing fluent Latin and having a single-semester knowledge of various romance languages- you're not gonna understand everything and you're going to mistranslate a lot.
He is also extremely intelligent and capable of building various scraps of tech, including mechas and other vehicles out of things he finds lying around, which he admittedly only uses for the stupidest schemes imaginable and not for anything productive.
Personality: It's stated very early in the series that Pokemon aren't fundamentally bad, only their masters are bad, and while this is subverted multiple times in the series, Meowth is one of the earliest subversions, going as far as to say that even though he doesn't have a trainer, he's always been a rat.
This is not as true as he wishes it was.
On the surface, Meowth is exactly as he appears, which is everything you'd expect from a cat in media. He's a smarmy wiseass with a wit as sharp as his claws, although he mostly uses it for extremely lame (yet clever) puns and exudes a Pesci-esque sense of gangster charm. That same charm gives him something of an appeal when he puts his mind to it, as shown by his ability to manipulate Pokemon (and sometimes people) into doing whatever he asks them to do just by putting on the theatrics a bit. He's streetwise, an artful Dodger if there ever was one, and while he's had to learn a lot through pain and suffering and continues to learn through those methods, he's gotten good at thinking on his feet. Like the cliche says, he always lands on his feet (even when he lands on his face), and will keep at a goal relentlessly. This makes him pigheaded and stubborn to the point of blind stupidity, especially since his goals generally tend to be either ridiculous or unattainable by normal standards, but he, as a general rule, never says die.
Meowth has a habit of dreaming big and even when the schemes are seemingly simple, he goes all out to achieve them, something he shares with his fellow Team Rocket members, who have taken excessive measures to achieve small goals to new heights with their outlandish inventions. Subtlety is for other people- if he can't go big, he goes home. As an attention-seeker, Meowth lives to be noticed so whatever will get him noticed and recognized is what he goes with. His passion and verve are his greatest assets even if he has no idea how to utilize or channel either properly.
Intelligent, but lacking in common sense, Meowth fluctuates between moments of brilliance (he taught himself to speak and walk like a human) and utter idiocy (which is mostly due to his stubbornness and pride). He's good at improvising and has shown on more than one occasion that he might actually be the smartest member of the TRio- he's actually the one that PILOTS those giant mechas they always bring out, which is rather impressive for the one member of the team who barely has thumbs.
He might not be the most skilled thief or even a decent villain (neither are Jessie or James), but he throws himself into it whole-heartedly, and yet he still has no problem working for the side of good and partnering up with his enemies. Fundamentally, Meowth isn't bad so much as he wants respect and attention and has chosen Giovanni, the leader of Team Rocket, as the be-all and end-all of his sense of self-worth. If the Boss recognizes him as Top Cat, then surely that's what he is. Being devastated by the love of his life after working so hard to please her left a mark on him and so he holds himself to the standard of proving that she was wrong. Due to his dedication to proving to Giovanni he's worth a damn, he often misses the fact that he's achieved acceptance with Jessie and James to such an extent that even when he acknowledges that they're the only people who ever really cared about him, it doesn't stop him from pursuing his goals. However, this may be just as much his dedication to them as it is anything- after all, Team Rocket would be listless if they weren't a part of Team Rocket anymore. They're defined by that and thus, they keep on. However, he has, on several occasions, thought of leaving Team Rocket in order to pursue some other flights of fancy, but, in the end, it's Jessie and James he comes back to.
Bitchy, bossy, and an all-around loud-mouth, Meowth's tendency to keep it "big and loud" extends to his ability to talk as much (if not more) as his scheming does. He might not get the biggest chunk of the motto, but you're well aware of his existence and his general disregard for Jessie and James's competence and tendency to boss them around (sometimes they even listen) proves that he places himself high on their pecking order. Early on, Meowth was actually written as the leader with Jessie and James as his henchmen, but now they're usually portrayed as equals with Jessie, more often than not, taking the leadership role. Even so, Meowth and Jessie will often butt heads over dominance.
One of the most obvious chunks of Meowth's character is his ridiculous fixation on love, often falling into deep, intense love with another Pokemon (or, in one case, a human) at least once a season. These fixations come on extremely quickly and, in a Pokemon's case, happen at first sight. He can't resist a pretty female Pokemon and when he falls, he falls hard, putting his skill at dramatics to the test. He's gone ridiculously out of his way to please females and usually he ends up shut down or abandoned by the end of the episode, with all of his hard work and dedication thrown to the wayside. This even manifests in a paternal way with Togepi, who he took care of as an egg when Team Rocket stole it from Ash and his friends. Whether platonic or romantic, Meowth is extremely protective of anything he loves- the one exception seem to be Jessie and James, whom he does care for deeply, but the three of them show their affection more with abuse than anything else. He and James even don't worry too much about Jessie when the two are separated from her on two occasions, expressing that Jessie is more of a danger to those around her than anyone might be a danger to her.
Meowth is fully capable of being a hero if he chose to be and, in fact, shows a degree of competence that he never shows when he's being a bad guy when he chooses to do good, often getting extremely brutal and cunning with his attacks when in the defense of something other than himself or his own selfish means. He's actually quite noble when he puts his mind to be, but, unfortunately, nobility doesn't earn him respect and fame and fortune with little effort, and, at the end of the day, it's those things he wants out of life.
However, he does have a certain amount of respect for his enemies and enough sense of honor to acknowledge it, most obvious in his rivalry with Ash's Pikachu, who he and his partners have been trying to abduct and turn over to the Boss for years. Despite the fact that he and the little electric rat are doomed to a, shall we say, "cat and mouse" conflict, Meowth has expressed a great deal of respect and admiration for Pikachu's kindness, even second-guessing his more sneaky methods of abducting him and, in one case, actually feeling guilt for manipulating him. He also develops a begrudging amount of respect for Tyson's Meowth, who had previously insulted and defeated him, when he learned of their shared sordid history with their evolved form Persian.
Due to his ability to speak being a point of pride with him, he makes no effort to hide it, unless forced to. He isn't perturbed at all about people finding his ability to talk strange and will talk in front of anyone (sometimes even just to himself), usually acting awkward or proud about it, depending on the situation, when called out. Forcing him to shut his mouth, however, is an exercise in extreme difficulty as Meowth tends to be temperamental and has a bad habit of letting his ability to speak slip out when it shouldn't.
Speaking of pride, the fact that he's a free Pokemon without a legitimate trainer is a huge issue with him, to the point where he actively forgets he is a Pokemon sometimes until it's pointed out. He expects to be treated like a human and gets annoyed when people suggest that Jessie and James are his trainers or that he even needs a trainer. Being able to talk and walk upright put him ahead of the game. However, he seems to have no qualms about being Giovanni's personal pet to the point where that seems to be his ultimate endgame, showing that he might have less issue with being owned and more issue with being owned by someone whose attentions won't give him a sense of status (it's also probably worthy of note that Meowth has, as he's wont to do, likely not considered the true ramifications of being Giovanni's pet). It should also be noted that Meowth doesn't react to things like a cat would- in fact, his reactions tend to be extremely human and while he might be easily distracted by a ball of yarn or something shiny, he rarely shows a more catlike side of himself. He's just a tiny, furry human. (Albeit one that would not say no to someone petting him- he's a sucker for affection.)
At his core, Meowth is a dreamer, living an idyllic fantasy life to such a great extent that it's evident he has no clue how things really are in the real world- this is clear by his mental portrayals of Giovanni, who he sees as a simple man who can be easily swayed by the most mundane of gifts, when, in reality, Giovanni is only interested in that which can help him take over the world in the most efficient way. In fact, Meowth almost always puts himself against plans the boss would legitimately like to achieve out of his own sense of morality, such as in Mewtwo Returns when he stands with Metwo and the clones, rather than Giovanni and Team Rocket. While skewed, he does have morals, as well as a poetic side that comes out especially whenever he looks at a full moon. He has aspects of a philosopher in him and can often manage great insights when he feels compelled to.
Barge Reactions: Meowth won't take kindly to having been brought here without Jessie and James, especially when he's expected to be redeemed, and that will be his biggest sticking point, and will be the first really big hurdle to overcome, as they tend to make decisions as a team and him being on his own seems rude and unfair and kind of tricky, if you ask him. Being a novelty will be intriguing to him at first and then slowly wear on him when he has to explain what a Pokemon is for the fiftieth time. He's pretty capable of rolling with the punches of just about anything, however... Including the idea that he's fictional, because he often references being on a TV show in canon.
Path to Redemption: The problem of Meowth isn't so much that he's a bad person- rather, he does bad things and doesn't seem to care that he's more than capable of being good and seems either oblivious to his better qualities (like his loyalty and his dedication) or prefers not to acknowledge them, because they're not getting him what he wants. Since Meowth is a sucker for praise and validation, the first and main path should be focus on giving him any kind of positive reinforcement when he makes correct choices. Validating his better qualities will go a long way over pointing out his bad ones. He knows he's the worst. He's the best at being the worst.
The second path is that he needs to fully disengage from his fantasy of "The Boss" and acknowledge that the relationship is one-sided, toxic, and, frankly, keeping him mired in evil. It'll be a hard road to get him to accept this as he hasn't necessarily had any proof beyond the threat of punishment if he fails... And he's never failed so hard that Giovanni has actually done anything to him, so clearly The Boss is into him. (No, he's not.)
The third and final path is providing options for a different life, and this will be the hardest one, as Meowth, Jessie, and James have had that option placed in front of them many times and still chose to go back to crime. It's going to take a lot of work and a lot of conversation to get him to a point where he feels he can go back home and have a purpose that isn't about crime, and a warden won't just being trying to convince him, but will have to consider that whatever redemptive path he takes with him will have to work for Jessie and James, as well. Congrats, future Warden- you are effectively redeeming three people.

[ Character's Age ] : Unknown, although equivelent to at least a 25-year-old human.
[ Series ] : Pokemon
[ Canon Point ] : Post-Hoenn Alone, the end of the Johto Arc.
[ History ] : Meowth was born in a junkyard, a child of the streets... Okay, actually, he was born in a barn, but the child of the streets part is accurate. For some inexplicable reason, he was abandoned as a kitten, left to fend for himself, and knowing nothing of the harsh, uncaring world beyond that it was harsh and uncaring. He was starving for food and affection and everywhere he turned, he knew the world's cruelties first hand.
Yeah.... His life was pretty hard.
And then one day, he discovered Hollywood after seeing a movie for the first time and the ambitious little cat decided that's where he had to go... Not for the fame and fortune- for the food. Still, he had dreams and he hitched them to the back of a truck headed west and ended up in HOLLYWOOD... Which was... Somehow in the mythical land of Kanto.
Yep.
Of course, Hollywood was just as unkind as the place he came from. Stealing food was a hard knock life for a cat with zero mad skills and only his questionable wits. Still, he found salvation in the form of a stray Meowth gang led by a Persian and as a part of that group, he found acceptance and, above all things, a full belly... But he wanted more.
What more could he want as king of the junkyard strays? Why, this little poet kitty needed some sweet, sweet lovin' and one day, he saw the Ms. Kitty of his dreams- a female Meowth named Meowzy. His attempts to woo her, however, failed, due to the fact that he was a poor beggar and she was the prized Pokemon of a wealthy lady. After misconstruing her statement about how he'd never be human and thus unable to provide for her the way her mistress did, Meowth dedicated the next year to learning how to walk and talk like a human. It was a gruelling process, but finally he learned and when he showed up in front of Meowzy again, he was positive that she'd fall over herself to be with him.
In reality, she... Called him a freak and told him to GTFO.
Heartbroken, Meowth left Hollywood, determined to find his real place in the world and prove Meowzy wrong. Thanks to the first word he learned (rocket), he decided his place was within the ranks of the illustrious criminal organization Team Rocket. Of course, when he showed up on the doorstep of one Giovanni, the Boss Rocket, he was treated as little more than an errand boy just to get him out of everyone's hair. Of course, naive as he was, Meowth figured he had to start at the bottom to get to the top.
After a few too many botched tea-fetching missions, Giovanni stuck him with Jessie, a wildcard new recruit, and James, her new partner. This turned out to be the start of a beautiful friendship and the three of them successfully completed their training to become Team Rocket field agents and began their reign of tyranny across the Kanto Region, stealing rare and unusual Pokemon, robbing from everyone, and being generally awesome.
And they would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for some twerp and his Pikachu.
After failing to steal all the Pokemon in the Viridian Pokemon Center thanks to the aforementioned Pikachu BLOWING THE FUCK OUT OF THE PLACE, they decided to try a different tactic- STEAL THAT PIKACHU NO MATTER WHAT THE COST. Thus began a million seasons of three idiots trying to steal one electric rat from a ten-year-old boy and failing miserably.
So, basically.... Meowth's life has never gotten easier. But, hey, he can deal.
.... Also, here's a wiki page. .

His passion and verve are his greatest assests even if he has no idea how to utilize or channel either properly.
Intelligent, but lacking in common sense, Meowth fluctuates between moments of brilliance (he taught himself to speak and walk like a human) and utter idiocy (which is mostly due to his stubbornness and pride). He's good at improvising and has shown on more than one occasion that he might actually be the smartest member of the TRio- he's actually the one that PILOTS those giant mechas they always bring out, which is rather impressive for the one member of the team without thumbs.
[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
STRENGTHS
Mental: He's extremely intelligent, given that he's capable of human speech, can read, and has a bit of a philosophical side. He's also pretty tech-savvy on a good day. And it's probably worthy of note that he can be the most manipulative little mofo ever, considering he convinced THE ENTIRE AUDIENCE he'd switched sides for six episodes until he turned around and went J/K. He values his intelligence over his battling skills, so this is his biggest point of pride.
Emotional: Meowth can pretend he doesn't give a shit. Unfortunately, he's not that good at it. He's emotional strengths are about as rock-hard as a damp napkin.
Physical: He is extremely durable, though not immortal, capable of surviving long falls, electric attacks, fire, and various other things no normal animal would be able to survive, with no lasting damage. This is a good thing as it's likely he has never seen the intensive care unit of a Pokemon Center when he wasn't stealing from it or a Potion that wasn't provided by the kindness of strangers. His claw attacks- which are his only real attacks-range from being ineffective to actually very devastating, depending on the scenario- when he gets pissed, he tends to be more effective at combat.
WEAKNESSES
Mental: He's stubborn, pig-headed, and prone to acting without actually thinking. For the Pokemon equivelent of a genius, he has zero common sense, and will blindly follow even the most ridiculous goal until he hits a brick wall or... Explodes or something.
Emotional: He's temperamental and has a seriously hard time keeping his heart... Not on his sleeve- the exception being when he's manipulating people, but even then, there's moments where you have to wonder if he's being legit. He crumbles when people are nice to him, can't resist a pretty face, and is kind of oversensitive. Basically, he's an emotional wreck on his best days and mood swings like a hormonal girl.
Physical: He's two feet worth of underfed cat whose only real power is in his smart mouth, his intelligence, and his claws and neither will really win him many points in a Battle Royale. The end.
[ Other Important Facts ] :
-Meowth can speak and understand all types of Pokemon language- meaning that anyone with Pokemon in the game, he can communicate with and translate what those Pokemon are saying.
-He hates water. Especially wet water.
-He can build and operate giant mechas... Just... Don't ask.

But, hey, he can deal.
.... Also, here's a wiki page. .
[ Personality ] : It's stated very early in the series that Pokemon aren't fundamentally bad, only their masters are bad, and while this is subverted multiple times in the series, Meowth is one of the earliest subversions, going as far as to say that even though he doesn't have a trainer, he's always been a rat.
Like the cliche says, he always lands on his feet, even when he lands on his face, and will keep at a goal relentlessly. This makes him pigheaded and stubborn to the point of blind stupidity, especially since his goals generally tend to be either ridiculous or unattainable by normal standards, but he, as a general rule, never says die.

General
Canon Source: Pokemon
Canon Format: Anime
Character's Name: Meowth
Character's Age: Unknown, as I have no idea how Pokemon aging works. He's a fully grown Meowth, however.
What form will your character's NV take? A wrist communicator, similar in size and shape to that, worn around his left wrist. It has Team Rocket's iconic red "R" emblazoned on the top and when flipped open displays a video screen. It has no keyboard and thus no text function, but does have a numerical keypad for dialing specific NV's.
Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities: Meowth has very little in terms of abilities for a Pokemon, having used up most of his "smarts" to learn how to walk on two legs and talk human- which are abilities in themselves. Most notably, he can bite and use his claws for attacks, and the major thing that differentiates his claw attacks from a normal cat's is that when he uses them, his claws extend outwards about two inches and glow, looking something like this. It should be noted that if used at full power, these claw attacks would leave devastating scars or marks on a human not from the Pokemon universe (due to humans having lived next to Pokemon for so long that they develop immunities or resistence to their attacks). Normal animals (and humans if hit in the right spot, as it would be akin to be sliced with six knives- whether Meowth can put that much power into the attack depends on the situation) wouldn't stand a chance against a direct fury swipes, but Darkness creatures would react as a Pokemon would- either not affected at all or only minimally affected. His jaws are also twice as powerful as a normal cat's, making his bite attacks extremely efficient.
He is extremely durable, though not immortal, capable of surviving long falls, electric attacks, fire, and various other things no normal animal would be able to survive, with no lasting damage. This is a good thing as it's likely he has never seen the intensive care unit of a Pokemon Center when he wasn't stealing from it or a Potion that wasn't provided by the kindness of strangers. As healing and medicine differs here, he will be at a greater risk for accuring more serious injuries that take more effort to heal, but he'd still be more durable than a housecat.
I kind of compare it to the way Keehar sounds to the rabbits in Watership Down.
....And he can pilot giant mechas. It's best not to even fucking ask.
Conditional: None. Meowth's abilities may be weak in Pokemon terms, but he's not an average housecat and can cause serious damage to people and animals with just his claws and teeth, as they're stronger than the average animal.
Weapons: Just the aforementioned claws and teeth.

Character Plans: Meowth is a character whose one real goal is to be loved and respected, thus turning to a life of crime in canon. While he's extremely close to his partners, Jessie and James, being stuck in another universe where most people won't think he's useless or a freak will be a complete switch for him and give him a dilemma to work through... Especially if Jess or Jimmy ever actually show up. Plus, he's fun and a crackier character will balance out my two plottier characters and Gabriel who has a lot of established CR and world stuff. And he has a lot of potential, even as a crack character, for exploring some darker and edgier stuff I might not get to in other games.
Appearance/PB: Meowth is 1'4 worth of kitty with a koban embedded on his forehead.

Unluckily for Meowth (or maybe luckily), his NV has a very sensitive "voice" button, so he's been broadcasting for the past ten minutes. This... Is not very effective, so CLAWS TO THE PAVEMENT, IT IS. After a lengthy period of frantic panting and the sounds of padded footsteps too soft to be human, but, hey, maybe your NV's sound is bad somehow, Meowth finally stops, still completely unaware that he's broadcasting.]
I think I lost 'em. [A sigh] But it looks like I lost Jessie and James too. ...Huh? [Yes, everyone. Genius has discovered his NV. Finally.] I don't remember gettin' this. [....Oh well. [There's a sound and Meowth jolts in shock, upsetting a trashcan in the process. It doesn't help his life.] Me.
Third Person Sample: Getting blasted off on a daily basis? Whatever. Fine. That was life. C'est la vie. Meowth could roll with those particular punches even if he didn't necessarily like the idea of having to scrape himself off the forest floor every Thursday night...
...Actually, this was a lot less comfy than the forest. Come to think of it, they weren't even in the forest to begin with. ...Come to think of it, this was definitely not Kanto astroturf. Arceus knows how the fuck he could tell that. Hitting the ground facefirst so many times tended to give you a pretty good impression of the scenery from that angle.
Meowth groaned and pulled himself up onto all fours, giving his surroundings a wide eyed glance, cat-eyes adjusting to the darkness. It was definitely midafternoon when he and Jessie and James were sent flying by another one of Pikachu's electric attacks and he was still smoldering a little... So he could definitely cross "it was all a dream" off his list of possible explanations, which was a relief, because if he was actually dreaming about failure, then psychiatric help was the only remedy and they didn't have the budget for that.
Baseball diamond. Right. "I get the feelin' we ain't in Saffron no more," he whined out loud, meaning for the comment to reach Jessie and James, but when no answering groans followed, he looked around intently, only to find he was alone. "Guys?"
Dammit. Every time he got blasted off somewhere on his own, he ended up stuck working with Pikachu or an island that worshipped him. His life would kill an ordinary Pokemon. He clambered up onto two legs and took a few tentative steps forward. Okay. Nothing jumping out at him. No sign of Jessie and James. He sighed and started walking, figuring he'd run into his pals sooner or later, hopefully after he realized what the hell was going on so he could explain it to them and delight in being the informed one of the trio.
He was about ten feet from the field when his inexplicable sense of smell picked up the intense smell of rot, decay, and, worst of all, blood. A second later, it occurred to him that no city street would ever be this quiet and empty at night- he was raised on the city streets. He knew that beat like he knew the edge of his claws. Speaking of those, they came out on instinct when a growling sound from behind made his ears flick.
Not. In. Saffron. Anymore.
He pulled his paws away from his face, leveling them to a fighting stance, and then whirled at the sound- nothing was directly behind him, but a good ten feet away was something vaguely feline, taking slow, labored steps, it's engorged belly looking fit to burst. It was bigger than he was, but it was slow and Meowth belonged to a species known for its speed, battle skill or no. Sure, he could run, but this was an unfamiliar city and a street Meowth knew to stand his ground or else he was gonna get picked on by everything else in the territory.
....You know, he'd never seen a Pokemon like that before, now that he was thinking of it, especially not in Kanto.
....Oh well.
"Hey!" The creature gave him no real reaction. "Yeah, I'm talkin' to you. This turf belongs to Meowth now, y'hear? So scram. And tell all your buddies there's a new Top Cat in town and if they know what's good for 'em, they'll steer clear." The creature stopped briefly and Meowth placed his paws on his hips, clearly satisfied that his bluff was working.
...Until it started moving again, slowly, deliberately.
"You got ears, you ugly palooka, so why don'tcha use 'em?" His claws extended another inch or so, glowing faintly and when the creature didn't stop, he lunged. "A wise guy, huh? Fine. Get a load of my Fury Swipes."
He aimed a swipe at the creature's bloated belly. This would later go down as his third, fourth, and fifth mistakes of the night.
The thing's stomach burst and Meowth knew a second later that he had made the wrong call. The sea of ugly, nipping, biting, and clawing kittens that swarmed him soon after confirmed that and the next thing he knew, he was bolting and screeching through the night, dislodging the little creatures any way possible.
Blasting off was one thing. This? This royally sucked.

Character Information
History/Personality/Plans/etc.
Character History: HERE.
Point in Canon: Episode 422: Pasta La Vista.
Character Personality: It's stated very early in the series that Pokemon aren't fundamentally bad, only their masters are bad, and while this is subverted multiple times in the series, Meowth is one of the earliest subversions, going as far as to say that even though he doesn't have a trainer, he's always been a rat.
He also develops a begrudging amount of respect for Tyson's Meowth, who had previously insulted and defeated him, when he learned of their shared sordid history with their evolved form Persian.

He isn't perturbed at all about people finding his ability to talk strange and will talk in front of anyone (sometimes even just to himself), usually acting awkward or proud about it, depending on the situation, when called out.
